International Technical Meeting on Ageing at Home

Québec’s Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), France’s Ministère des Solidarités et de la Santé, and Québec’s Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie, in cooperation with many partners, will hold an international technical meeting on ageing in place from October 23 to 25, 2018, at Monastère des Augustines.

The technical meeting, which will be conducted in French and English, aims to foster dialogue, thought, and discussion on developments, issues, challenges, and possible solutions. The meeting will be underpinned by the work of a scientific committee on four areas of action:

  1. Acting on policies
  2. Acting on the environment
  3. Acting on the person
  4. Ageing people and their actions

Population ageing is a global phenomenon that impacts numerous sectors, even in societies with high birth rates.

Adding to the knowledge of the meeting’s international participants and further informing their positions, the meeting will serve to issue technical opinions on the strategies and best practices to adopt in the coming years, with a view to successful innovation. The meeting will be anchored in WHO’s Healthy Ageing Strategy, launched in 2015, which aims to implement and reinforce measures to support seniors’ autonomy, including by adapting health and social service systems so they may stay at home.

The meeting will also be an opportunity to improve networking between states to support government decision-making regarding measures that foster healthy ageing in place.

The meeting will bring together, by invitation only, some 100 international participants, including some 50 government representatives from all continents working directly on issues related to ageing in place.

Invited organizations have until August 15th to email the name, title, and contact information of their designated representative to MSSS’s Direction des affaires intergouvernementales et de la coopération internationale. The organizing committee will then communicate with that person to provide them with information on registration and participation.

The representative designated by the organization can be a director or expert advisor responsible for care, services, or measures related to ageing in place.
