The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux and the Global Network for Health in All Policies (GNHiAP) will hold the Second Meeting of the GNHiAP from October 7 to 9, 2019 at the Monastère des Augustines in Québec City.

The theme of the Meeting will be Drive action for sustainability, equity and well-being. It will combine expert round tables, workshops and a work session for members of the Steering Committee on the GNHiAP Action Plan.

This meeting will be held in French and English and is by invitation only.

Objectives

• Share inspiring examples of HiAP from practice.
• Recruit new members.
• Consolidate the GNHiAP.
• Hear from leading experts, fellow-practitioners.
• Discuss the Global Report on the Status of HiAP.
• Consolidate our understanding of how HiAP operates in different countries and localities as well as different contexts.

Background

The Global Network for Health in All Policies - GNHiAP  was created at the 70^th Annual Meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) in May 2017. In October 2017, Québec participated with eight other countries in the First Meeting of the GNHiAP, which was held in Thailand. The mandates, the objectives and an action plan for the network were established at that time. An Executive Committee and a Steering Committee were also created. Québec, as a member of the Steering Committee, will host the Second Meeting of the GNHiAP in October 2019.

Health in All Policies approach

The Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach is recognized by the WHO as an effective strategy to influence a population’s health status sustainably. It systematically accounts for the health consequences of decisions by all sectors.

By acting on the health determinants found outside the health network’s radius of action, governments increase their capacity to produce a healthy and prosperous society. It has been recognized for several years that living conditions are the greatest contributors to a population’s overall health status.

The Health in All Policies approach recognizes the interdependence among the State’s missions. It relies on intersectoral collaboration and support by the health sector for the other sectors that act on health determinants, thus responding to the international recommendations to adapt health governance to the current complex public health issues.
